Thursday 15th February - walk ***** – Family day out at Jimmy’s Farm nr. Ipswich – mainly cloudy but mild.

Our son Dan is on holiday and had arranged a visit to Jimmy’s Farm and wildlife Park just outside Ipswich and asked if we would like to come for a day out which included the lovely Maeva of course so how could we refuse:) We went many years ago when our boys were young when the farm first opened and were less than impressed but things have moved on inn the last 20 years and we were now very impressed by the large collection of animals and birds set in lovely surroundings:) We packed a picnic and Dan picked us up arriving just after 10 with the carpark filling up Grandparents and young families with kids. Although Maeva really needed a sleep she was awake for the very impressive display from the peacocks showing off before moving onto the highlight of the trip the large pen continuing a family group of amazing capybara,s which we got to feed:) Then Jay got bitten feeding the geese, the black swans were dozing, then up through the pretty forest with a pretty muddy path to the farm animal paddocks containing loads of amazing pigs, chickens, sheep, highland cattle and Suffolk punches and friendly goats. Then back to the woods, past the Artic foxes and got our first glimpse of a rather sad looking polar bear recently rescued from a foreign zoo, they are spending a small fortune on a large wooded enclosure for the bears and they have several ponds to swin in too along side a group of wolves! Meave had a sleep but was now awake so we stopped for lunch before looking at the lizzards and onto the butterfly room which was very hot and was next to the ring tailed lemurs. Then another highlight a large tortoise surrounded by meerkats standing to attention looking for passing danger, a small aeroplane passing overhead really spooked them. Then more geese, camels and a couple of amazing armadillos or as Mag called them cocnuts on legs:) We also spotted loads of wild birds including long tailed tits, robins, gold and chaffinches and the tapiers with their long noses were great:) In the end we were there for 5 hours walking 4.25 miles so were suitably knackered so it was time to head for home but not before Maeva got a lovely armadillo soft toy, what a great day and we will have to go again when our Grandson Arlo next come to visit!
